What is UV treatment?

Ultraviolet (UV) light is a water treatment disinfection using ultraviolet light. It is effective on bacteria and chlorine-resistant protozoa like Giardia and Cryptosporidium, and, can also be effective for most viruses.

SmartStream, the UV water disinfection system with innovation built-in from Watts, offers up to 189 litres per minute models with advanced high-efficient UV lamps.

How does SmartStream work?

The Watts SmartKey UV lamps maximizes performance levels while the Auto-Dimming feature reduces energy consumption by up to 46%. The quartz sleeves use high-quality hard glass which allows high transmission levels of UV light. The ballast is a state-of-the-art high performance power source and control center for the UV lamp. Select models features TouchScreen display that is easy-to-use and has visual indicators that inform the users to replace or clean the UV lamp, days left to change UV lamp, service contact and where to buy replacement parts.

Watts SmartStream™ A Series UV Systems

The new Watts SmartStream™ A Series UV systems are an improved version of the Watts UV (WUV) line we previously offered. Replacement lamps, quartz sleeves, sleeve oring, and controllers are all interchangeable between the WUV and the A Series. The new upgrades include a two piece quartz sleeve nut with grounding screw, a lamp power wire strain relief in the quartz sleeve nut and a reconfigured inlet and outlet port arrangement.

Watts SmartStream™ B & C Series UV Systems

All B & C series systems come standard with wireless radio frequency SmartKey™ technology, so that the UV lamps are properly identified. This feature prevents low pressure B series lamps from being used in the C series systems, which use low pressure high output lamps. By properly identifying the lamp, the controller will initiate the proper start up sequence for that specific lamp. The hours of operation are also logged directly to the lamp chip, so a lamp past its life span cannot be accidentally put back into service.

All B & C series systems also come standard with automatic lamp dimming. During periods of no flow the controller automatically powers the lamp down to 50% intensity. This feature prevents the generation of hot water by the system during periods of no flow and reduces power consumption by up to 46%.
